16 year-old Gabriel Magalhaes was the victim of a random, unprovoked attack at Keele subway station. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries, leaving his family shocked and devastated. Andrea Magalhaes, Gabriel's mother states that "Something needs to change," and asks "When is it going to – this senseless violence?". With these random violent attacks occurring on the TTC dominating the news, many riders have grown concerned about safety on the TTC, Andrea said that this issue isn't one with a short-term solution, emphasizing the importance of social services.

Members of TTCriders distributed flyers to let commuters know cuts mean longer wait times. They also encourage people to phone Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Doug Ford to urge them to provide the TTC with more funding.

There is renewed outrage and calls for change after a 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death in what police are calling an unprovoked attack on the TTC. Tina Yazdani with why advocates say the wrong steps are being taken to address safety issues.

Transit users call on Ottawa to save TTC from more service cuts
Volunteers stationed at 18 TTC stops distributed flyers to commuters about service cuts that came into effect over the weekend. The flyers inform transit users how much longer they will be waiting for their bus, subway or streetcar and encourage them to phone Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Premier Doug Ford for urgently needed TTC funding.
CTV News reporting on concerns that budget cuts to the TTC will compound safety issues
The TTC has implement service cuts on 39 transit routes which will disproportionately impact marginalized communities. Monica from TTCriders states that these service cuts will only lead to a decrease in ridership, ultimately resulting in more cuts and poor service and affirms that adequate funding is needed from the government. Concerns regarding safety on riders' commutes has also grown with increased waiting times.

Outreach workers will be providing more support for unhoused people on the TTC with new partnership between the City of Toronto, TTC and community organization, LOFT Community Services. Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie states that this partnership is to push safety. Monica Mason from TTCriders says that this program is a "good first step" but more resources and investment are needed.
