That's why the next five weeks are really important. The TTC Board is debating a new fare plan and it needs to be bold enough to win thousands of people over to public transit!

Launched: New report calls for lower fares to win back transit riders

A new report by transit user group TTCriders is calling for lower fares to win back transit riders and make the TTC safe and accessible now. TTC ridership is at approximately 30% of pre-pandemic levels. World class cities like Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. are introducing lower fares and more frequent, reliable service to win back riders and address inequalities.

Tell the TTC to keep one flat fare in Toronto

The TTC is running another transit survey to get feedback on specific fare proposals, including fare capping, fare-by-mode, and fare-by-distance. We need to speak up now against proposals like paying extra for the subway.

Tell the TTC that higher fares aren’t fair

The TTC and YRT have a survey in progress to gain the public's opinions on future fare options that will lead to a Five Year Fare Policy and Ten Year Outlook. The purpose of the survey is to develop fare policies that reflect the recent demographics of the growing population.

Transit users across Toronto can now take advantage of a two-hour transfer window when travelling on the TTC with a PRESTO card. This much needed change, introduced on Sunday August 26th, will afford transit users greater flexibility

TTCRiders demands Toronto follow Niagara Region, Calgary and Edmonton in introducing a low income pass

Transit advocates are asking Toronto to follow the lead of Niagara Region and Alberta's largest cities by introducing a low-income transit pass for the TTC. Yesterday, Niagara Regional Council approved a $110 reduction in the cost of their transit system's monthly pass for eligible applicants, from $160 to $50. Local politicians initially proposed a more modest price decrease but advocates pressed hard for more robust help for the neediest transit riders. Andy Petrowski, the St. Catharines city councillor who spearheaded the move, said that the reduced cost will particularly assist job seekers: “This gives people who are looking for work or moving to work, traditionally in lower-paying positions, an opportunity to use (regional transit) for the first time.” Niagara is also hoping to boost ridership on their regional transit system through this targeted fare reduction.

Riders in the inner suburbs shouldn't pay more if Presto cards change the way we pay for the TTC

With the impending widespread implementation of Presto on the TTC it is possible that there could be proposal to change the TTC fare structure from the current “single-ride within Toronto” arrangement.
