Our 2-hour transfers are here!

Transit users across Toronto can now take advantage of a two-hour transfer window when travelling on the TTC with a PRESTO card. This much needed change, introduced on Sunday August 26th, will afford transit users greater flexibility
on the TTC and has the potential to grow ridership by 5 million new customer trips per year.

Why only on PRESTO?

The two-hour transfer is only available on PRESTO because the TTC will phase out tokens by the end of 2019. Dozens of agencies and community organizations are concerned that Metrolinx's plan to replace tokens will create additional barriers to using transit. How it works

View our full 2-hour transfer infographic here.

If you have a PRESTO card, and you’re on your way home from work, you’ll be able to get off the TTC to grab some groceries and pick up your kids from school and get back on without having to pay again. Or if you accidentally miss your bus stop you can hop on a bus going in the opposite direction without needing to explain your situation to a driver or pay an additional fare. The increased flexibility for transit riders to make stopovers is also great for local businesses. It encourages foot traffic, business and tourism on streets close to TTC routes because riders can easily leave the TTC to shop and then board again. Most importantly - it will make the system and the city more accessible for people on low incomes. The two-hour transfer window will allow people to pay one fare to access an half-hour employment workshop or visit the local community centre or library.

Get involved with TTCriders

When we work together to improve our transit system, we win. TTCriders fought for this change in coalition with Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas (TABIA), Regal Heights Village BIA, and the Regal Heights Residents’ Association. The introduction of the two-hour transfer is a small step towards implementing the TTC’s Ridership Growth Strategy - and transforming our public transit into a world-class transit system that works for everyone. Want to help advocate for more service improvements? Join the fight with TTCriders. Keep an eye out for the King for All Coalition’s “2-hr Challenge on King Street” this October to encourage transit riders in the pilot area to use their new two-hour transfers to hop on/off the King Streetcar to support local businesses. 📸 Rally to Open the Crosstown

On February 19, 2025, TTCriders held the Rally to Open the Crosstown at Yonge and Eglinton to call for answers about the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRT projects. Promised opening dates for the LRTs have come and gone, while transit costs have skyrocketed under Metrolinx. Transit riders are looking for answers and credible opening dates for the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRTs.
TTCriders asked every party to invest in running TTC service and new LRTs with a 50% operating subsidy for local transit systems, and to give the TTC back control over running Toronto transit, to keep costs down and increase accountability.
