Toronto Councillors
Transit advocacy group TTCriders wants Torontonians to weigh in on who’s been naughty and nice this year in transit: voting is now open for its 2014 Transit Troll and Transit Champion Awards. Nominees for the former are Doug Ford; Prime Minister Stephen Harper; Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti (Ward 7, York West); and Premier Kathleen Wynne. Those up for the latter are TTC CEO Andy Byford; the Fair Fare Coalition’s Sheryl Lindsay; Councillor Joe Mihevc (Ward 21, St. Paul’s West); and writer, transit activist, and Torontoist contributor Steve Munro. Troll and champion will be announced December 4.

There are not many times that I can recall being envious of Mississauga, but last week was one of those times. Last Monday Mississauga opened a new rapid transit line, proper bus rapid transit (BRT), that will have a significant effect on travel times headed east from Square One. This is an important development, but consistent with recent developments (in Mississauga) such as an increase in service frequency and the development of all-day express bus service akin to the TTC’s Rockets (i.e., #190, #192, #195 etc.).
We need your help to make sure the Union Pearson line is electrified, has lower fares, and more stops.
On December 11, Metrolinx and the Province will be deciding the fare price
Download and print our petition calling on the province and Metrolinx to lower fares, put in more stops, and electrify the Union Pearson line. If you wish, you can data entry the contacts who want to join our email list and then email us those contacts at [email protected] so we can get our supporters active.

The Amalgamated Transit Union 113 (ATU113) held a press conference and released a report on Monday Nov 10th that got media into a frenzy. In reality it calls for many of the same things Torontonians have been demanding for decades.
