At our last Campaigns Committee meeting, we voted to endorse Keep Transit Public, a transit worker led campaign designed to promote better transit service to citizens and maintain sustainable, living-wage paying jobs in Toronto. This endorsement is in line with a core value that Toronto’s public transit system must remain publicly owned, controlled and run. Transit that is built and run publicly is usually cheaper, more likely to provide good service across the city, and is more accountable to riders. The TTC is already the most efficient in North America.

Ripping up plans will delay new transit, say riders groups

April 10, 2018 (Toronto, ON) – Transit advocacy groups TTCriders and Scarborough Transit Action say that the provincial government’s transit plans announced today will delay new lines and leaves Eastern Scarborough without rapid transit.

"Premier Ford wants to start from scratch. Sending projects back to the drawing board is guaranteed to cost us more and delay new lines,” said TTCriders spokesperson Shelagh Pizey-Allen. “We can’t afford to go backwards. Our transit needs funding, not political meddling.”

The transit Fair Fare Pass has arrived! After years of organizing by the Fair Fare Coalition, last week the City of Toronto officially launched transit discounts for people on Ontario Works and Ontario Disability Support Program. Single fares will cost $2 and monthly passes will cost $115.50 for people who qualify.

Yesterday's provincial budget had good news and bad news for transit riders. Here’s the short story: The Liberal government is promising new transit and GO discounts, but TTC riders won’t see better service. There was also a troubling announcement that has us worried about transit privatization.
