Subway takeover could delay Relief Line
January 17, 2019 (Toronto, ON) — Transit advocacy organization TTCriders welcomes today’s announcement by Mayor John Tory that the City intends to add $162 million to the TTC’s 2019 Capital Budget in order to speed up the construction of the Relief Line by two years. But the organization says that the province’s plan to take over the subway system will cause delays to the Relief Line and other projects.

Higher subway fares would create a two-tier system
January 17, 2019 (Toronto, ON) — Transit advocacy organization TTCriders says that a Toronto Board of Trade Report on fare integration includes unfair recommendations.
“Charging higher fares for the subway would be unfair,” said ________ “Creating a two-tiered transit system will force lower income riders onto slower, more unreliable service like buses and streetcars.”
The TTC and Metrolinx held a public forum on the transition to Presto on December 11, 2018, thanks to the advocacy of the Fair Fare Coalition.
The TTC and Metrolinx will be introducing a paper Presto ticket to replace tokens. But concerns remain, including:
City Council will soon be deciding how much funding to allocate to the TTC, which affects fares and service levels. This year transit riders are facing fare increases, because the TTC is the least funded system in North America.

TTCriders says sale of TTC public land a rip-off
(Toronto, ON) January 11, 2018 - TTCriders is concerned about Transportation Minister Jeff Yurek’s recent statement that the province will sell the “air rights” over every subway station to developers if its plan to take over aspects of the TTC succeeds.

Advocates to pack Presto townhall, call for changes to token phase-out plan
DECEMBER 11th, 2018 (Toronto, ON) — More than one hundred members of the public, anti-poverty advocates, and social service agencies will pack the Metro Toronto Convention Centre tonight for a townhall on the phase-out of tokens and tickets. Advocates say that the token phase-out will create barriers to accessing transit, especially for seniors, low-income people, and people with disabilities.
