Transit riders need to have a voice at City Hall about the decisions that impact our lives.
But new Premier Doug Ford has introduced a bill that will make our city less democratic. With Bill 5, Ford intends to slash Toronto City Council from 47 seats to 25 before the October 22 municipal election.
Cutting the gas tax — a crucial source of municipal transit funding — is at the top of Premier Doug Ford's to-do list.
But Premier Ford also promised to keep 2 cents per litre flowing to local transit systems, and to double the gas tax contribution to municipalities by 2021.
More than forty agencies and community groups submitted a letter to Metrolinx’s Board Meeting today, warning that the Presto ticket that will replace tokens by the end of 2019 will create barriers to accessing transit.
On June 14, 2018, members of TTCriders gathered for our Annual General Meeting. Thank you to everyone who joined us and celebrated our work together.
Thank you to our event sponsor Henderson Brewing for providing delicious local beer! Thanks also to Parkbus.ca and Spacing for donating fantastic raffle prizes.
With election promises flying, little attention has been paid to a proposal that would radically reshape our public transit system: the PC and Liberal plan to take over the TTC subway lines. While it seems like a technicality, the plan has transit experts, riders, and workers alike worried about worsening quality and even privatization of the subway.

Every year we give out two awards at our Annual General Meeting, being held this year on Thursday June 14 from 6:30-8:30pm at 452 College St.
The award recognizes the hard work its recipients have made to create an accessible, affordable world class public transit system.
Help TTCriders talk to thousands of riders across Toronto about public transit issues in the provincial election, and the need for fair TTC funding.
With all the transit-related announcements and photo-ops we’ve seen lately from the city and province, it can only mean one thing: election season is upon us. Politicians talk a big game these days when it comes to transit expansion, but what is really behind all the smoke and mirrors? And what’s going on with the Relief Line, the top-priority subway project that the city has been talking about for decades?
In a win for riders of the #SufferinDufferin and bus routes all across the city, today the TTC Board approved new express bus service on 7 routes, and additional bus service. The new service will relieve peak and off-peak crowding and means that we will enjoy more frequent, reliable service starting in Fall 2018.
Which provincial parties are on track to improving TTC service, lowering fares, and building new public transit? Find out in our Vote Transit Report Card.
Want to help us distribute the report card to as many transit riders as possible? Get active with TTCriders! Between now and June 7, we'll be handing out the report card to thousands of people at TTC stops across Toronto. Download the report card postcard version here.
