How you can win better TTC this year.

City Council will soon be deciding how much funding to allocate to the TTC, which affects fares and service levels. This year transit riders are facing fare increases, because the TTC is the least funded system in North America.

But if enough of us take action, we can convince the TTC Board and City Council to fairly fund the TTC. There are many opportunities to take action over the next two months! The TTC budget launches on January 24 and City Council votes on its final 2019 budget on March 7th.

Speak with your City Councillor

1. Send an email

We’ve set up a tool that makes emailing your Councillor super easy: http://www.ttcriders.ca/fund-our-ride/

2. Call their office

City Councillors are always open to hearing from residents to discuss local issues affecting them. Call their office to share your concerns and priorities with their staff. You can find your Councillor’s phone number here, or call 311.

If you have another minute, call Mayor John Tory's office too: 416-397-4289

3. Schedule a meeting

You can also schedule a meeting with your Councillor to discuss your concerns in person. Contact us at [email protected] if you’d like to meet with your Councillor. We can support you by providing background information and invite other transit riders in your area to join you.

4. Attend your local budget town hall

Some City Councillors are also hosting their own budget town halls where they will share information about the budget. Social Planning Toronto is keeping track of these events as they're announced.

Make a Deputation

Deputations are your chance to speak directly to the TTC Board and the Budget and Executive Committee about transit issues that are affecting you. It’s open to everyone, including residents, community groups, non-profits, and businesses. Speakers get 3-5 minutes depending on how many people have signed up that day.

Never made a deputation before? TTCriders is hosting several trainings to get ready. Come out to learn about what’s in the 2019 TTC budget, get support in writing your speech, and practice with others in a non-judgmental environment

TTCriders training, Saturday February 2nd from 1pm-3pm at 720 Bathurst Street (CSI Annex).

Help Us Reach More Transit Riders

Toronto’s 1.8 million daily transit riders need better service and lower fares on the TTC. We need to reach as many of those transit riders as possible to build widespread support for a fairly funded TTC.
