Toronto transit riders will see a hike in their fares starting in March, after Mayor John Tory’s $95-million plan for the Toronto Transit Commission cleared its first hurdle at its board meeting.
The TTC board approved their capital budget on Monday afternoon at city hall, as well a fare hike that many riders had spoken out against earlier in the day.

Toronto Mayor John Tory is abandoning his campaign pledge to freeze transit fares, pushing the price of a monthly pass above $140 as riders are asked to shoulder about half the cost of a long list of service improvements.
