At their July 2011 meeting Toronto City Council voted 41 - 1 to adopt the following motion:
City Council calls on all Ontario Political Parties to Commit to Fund the TTC
City Council calls on all Ontario Political Parties to Commit to Fund the TTC
To date, this is the most significant pro-transit motion passed by our City Council. It shows that there is a recognition across the political spectrum at City Hall that our next Provincial Government must do more to properly fund the TTC.
With the Provincial Election campaign starting to ratchet up, it is important to make sure public transit is an issue your MPP candidates hear about when they knock on your door.
Please ask your candidates:
- Will you and your party commit to increasing Provincial Government funding for the operating and capital costs of the TTC?
- How will you ensure adequate funding for the TTC so costs are not continually downloaded to property tax payers and to TTC users through transit fare hikes?
- What is your vision for the future of public transit in Toronto and Ontario?
