Politicians Hold the Tardy-Sauce – Build the Finch LRT Already !

[caption id="attachment_4599" align="alignnone" width="623"]How much longer will we put up with this type of service? Tell Council to Build the LRT now ! How much longer will we put up with this type of service? Tell Council to Build the LRT now ![/caption]

It looks like our friends at City Council are at it again. Councillors Giorgio Mammoliti and Jim Karygiannis are looking to re-introduce their motion EX.4.14 to cancel the Finch LRT and build the Scarborough Subway instead of a fully provincially-funded LRT. Next Wednesday March 25th, it will be introduced at Executive Committee.

LRT stands for Light Rapid Transit and it works like a charm. Just check out this video of the LRT in Phoenix.

If we begin building now, it can be done in as little as 5 years and people on Finch Ave. taking the TTC will get relief sooner. The social service agencies in Rexdale, North Etobicoke, Jane-Finch, York University and Humber College support the LRT because it is a realistic method to connect people to essential services like healthcare, schools and places of employment. If we commit to building the LRT now we’ll have shovels in the ground by 2017and by 2020 10 km of light rail will be built instead of a two stop stub-way to nowhere for the same amount of money and likely much more time.

The 36 Finch bus is one of the most crowded and heavily ridden bus routes in the City. It’s time to build rapid transit now! An LRT is a cost and time – effective solution that will move people quickly and comfortably.  The Scarborough, Finch and Sheppard LRT’s could have been built by now were it not for politicking by City Council and some of our MPPs. So instead the Finch LRT has been shelved since 2010.

No more flip-flopping. Enough is enough. End the madness and built the Finch LRT!

Letter & Survey: TTC must exchange expired tokens and tickets

Do you still have TTC tokens or paper senior/student tickets or day passes? The TTC has announced that they will stop accepting TTC tokens and paper tickets after December 31, 2024. But the TTC will not be issuing exchanges. This is unfair to people who have saved up tokens and tickets, especially low-income seniors. Gift cards and permanent stamps never expire --  why are transit fares any different?
