Metrolinx's Paul Bedford speaks up for transit

On Valentine's Day transit riders got a lovely note from Metrolinx board member and former Chief Planner for Toronto, Paul Bedford. In his excellent editorial, Ford's critical 100-year decisions, Mr. Bedford provides hope for TTCriders by illustrating how "progressive planning is not the exclusive preserve of the left or the right."

Metrolinx's next Board meeting is on Friday, February 18th at 8:30am. You can view the agenda here. Sadly, it doesn't look like a revised "Transit City" or " Transportation City" plan is on their public agenda. It remains our hope that at some point soon TTCriders' will be given a chance to see and comment on the so-called hybrid transit plan.

Mr. Bedford ends his editorial with an important call to action:

After decades of inaction, Toronto urgently needs to get on with building transit of all types. Ford and the new council will be making 100-year decisions that will shape our future. Now is not the time to get cynical; the future success of Toronto and the region is far too important.

We agree, and hope Mr. Bedford and his colleagues will do their part to help us "get on with" building the  public transit Toronto desperately needs.
