Do you want training and hands-on experience in grassroots community organizing for a better public transit system?   

TTCriders is looking for youth (ages 15-30) who are passionate about social and economic justice to join our team! This is an 8-week position funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program.  

Job Description: Community Planner 

Start Date: Flexible - As early as June 9th

TTCriders is a membership-based organization of transit users in Toronto, Ontario. 

You will work with volunteers to conduct community planning activities to engage local residents and organizations about transit policy, and conduct research.  

Tasks may include: 

  • Engage and conduct outreach to volunteers, other organizations, and the public; 
  • Organize and facilitate meetings and public education events;
  • Design and deliver presentations and workshops;
  • Conduct surveys and research (reading public reports and policy documents); 
  • Draft and edit written materials;
  • Train and support volunteers in civic engagement activities;
  • Communicate with the public using social media, website, and email blasts.

Who We Are Looking For:

  • TTCriders is looking for motivated young people who are passionate about public transit and social and economic justice in Toronto! We are hiring under the Canada Summer Jobs program;
  • Some flexibility required to work during weekend hours and evenings when volunteers and members of the public are available for meetings and events; 
  • Leaders who can work independently and as part of a team;
  • Enjoys working with people;
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills;
  • Speaking or writing in language(s) additional to English is an asset; 
  • Previous involvement in TTCriders is an asset;
  • Graphic Design skills are an asset;
  • Women, LGBTTQ* people, people with disabilities, and Black, Indigenous, and people of colour are strongly encouraged to apply. TTCriders values the experience of people who use our public transit system.

Requirements:

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age;
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

This is an 8-week position at $19.60/hour.
