📸 Rally to Open the Crosstown

On February 19, 2025, TTCriders held the Rally to Open the Crosstown at Yonge and Eglinton to call for answers about the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRT projects. Promised opening dates for the LRTs have come and gone, while transit costs have skyrocketed under Metrolinx. Transit riders are looking for answers and credible opening dates for the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRTs.

TTCriders asked every party to invest in running TTC service and new LRTs with a 50% operating subsidy for local transit systems, and to give the TTC back control over running Toronto transit, to keep costs down and increase accountability.

Provincial election candidates from four different parties came to the rally and signed our cheque to show support for transit operations funding!

2. Jill Andrew (Toronto St Paul’s - NDP)
3. Stephanie Smyth (Toronto St. Paul’s - Liberal)
4. Vince Gasparro (Eglinton Lawrence - Liberal)
5. Linnea Lofstrom-Abary (Don Valley West - NDP)
6. Jeanne McGuire (Humber River - Black Creek - Communist)
7. Mark Bekkering (Scarborough Southwest - Green)

We were also joined by Jason MacDonald, chair of the Chair of York Eglinton BIA and owner of Casual Beauty Salon, who talked about the impact of Metrolinx construction on his community, and Brian Ndobe Mukwelley, a spokesperson from Malvern resident group 42 Voices, who spoke about the Eglinton East LRT.
