The most egregious of the report’s “options” include cutting transit service brought in under the TTC’s highly successful Ridership Growth Strategy and changes to the TTC’s crowding and minimum service frequency standards.
If the City's Executive Committee adopts these options, TTC riders will be forced to deal with even more overcrowding and even less frequent bus service.
The Consultant’s report insultingly suggests these service changes would only have an impact on customer flexibility and convenience. Our transit system is already overcrowded. Half a billion of us are going to ride the TTC next year, and instead of increasing service to meet this demand, the suggestion is to roll back essential parts of the TTC.
The report also suggests money could be saved by making it harder to qualify for the TTC’s Wheel-Trans service and by cutting the TTC’s Blue Night Network. Suggestions to cut the Blue Night Network or increase fares for this vital TTC service have already been met with disapproval from transit riders, including TTC Chair Karen Stintz.
TTCriders urge the Executive Committee to reject the consultant’s proposed TTC cuts and get on with building the enhanced and expanded transit network we desperately need.
