Last Monday April 27, over 40 TTCriders members and friends took to 10 different subways and buses and encouraged our fellow transit riders to take action and ask their elected officials to fairly fund the TTC.
TTCriders takes action for more provincial TTC funding
A group of us canvassed at the TTC stop closest to Premier Wynne’s home at Eglinton Subway Station at 8.00am that morning. We called on Premier Wynne to travel with us to Queen’s Park and allocate funding to the TTC in this year’s provincial budget when she gets there.
The day of action was part of our #savedyouaseat campaign where we asked Toronto-area provincial elected officials to ride the TTC for a week and fairly fund public transit in this year's provincial budget. The thinking was that if our elected officials understood what it was like to ride the TTC and experience the delays and sardine-crush like the rest of us they'd be inspired to fairly fund public transit. Many MPPs took part, including: Cheri Di Novo, Peter Tabuns, Arthur Potts, and Laura Albanese. Other MPPs made guest appearances but didn't complete the challenge for the whole week.
Thank you to all our awesome volunteers and supporters who helped with our day of action, including folks at the South Riverdale Community Centre, Susan, Stephen, Theresa, Gaelen, Leo P, Kamilla, Milan, Brenda, Herman, Suhail, Barbara, Aaron, Jessie M, Serena, and more. And special thanks to Marco and Shirin who canvassed on their own!! Wow!
