The Crosstown East LRT is shovel ready, and so are we

Equipped with “shovel ready” shovels, members of TTCriders gathered in front of City Hall at 9:00 a.m. this morning before heading up to Council’s Executive Committee meeting to voice our support for City Planning Department's recommendation to build a subway and LRT in Scarborough.

The Mayor’s Executive Committee voted unanimously to approve further study including cost estimates and ridership of an extension of the Scarborough Subway along McCowan to Scarborough Town Centre, an extension of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT to University of Toronto Scarborough Campus and a Smart Track station at Lawrence Avenue East.

Councillor Paul Ainslie’s recommendation that improvements to bus service to U of T Scarborough will also be investigated as part of a report coming back to the Executive Committee in March. Once the technical work and public consultations have been completed, it will go to Council this June.

📸 Rally to Open the Crosstown

On February 19, 2025, TTCriders held the Rally to Open the Crosstown at Yonge and Eglinton to call for answers about the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRT projects. Promised opening dates for the LRTs have come and gone, while transit costs have skyrocketed under Metrolinx. Transit riders are looking for answers and credible opening dates for the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRTs.
TTCriders asked every party to invest in running TTC service and new LRTs with a 50% operating subsidy for local transit systems, and to give the TTC back control over running Toronto transit, to keep costs down and increase accountability.
