2017 Transit Champions
Congratulations to Jessica Bell and Nirmalan Vijeyakumar, winners of the 2017 Transit Champion Awards! We were proud to recognize and thank founding executive director Jessica Bell for her years of leadership and tireless commitment to building a democratic organization of transit riders that continues to grow. We also recognized TTCriders member Nirmalan Vijeyakumar for building bridges between transit riders, community organizations, and local businesses to successfully advocate for two-hour TTC fares (coming August 2018!).

What we accomplished together in 2017
Read our
Annual Report, which outlines our accomplishments over the last year and updates from each committee.
Highlights include:
- Getting more funding for the TTC from the City of Toronto to fund 2-hour transfers and more bus service (the subsidy per ride rate increased to about $1.07 per ride, up from $1 per ride).
- Convincing City Council to approve funding for the low income pass.
- Organizing another successful Transit Summit.
At the meeting, members of TTCriders' committees shared their accomplishments and plans for the year ahead:
- The Fair Fare Coalition will work to secure funding for the next two phases of the low income pass, and continue to demand much more: free TTC for people who receive OW and ODSP, and $1 fares and $50 passes for other low income riders.
- Scarborough Transit Action is making sure that an LRT network replaces the one-stop Scarborough Subway.
- The Outreach and Membership Committee is growing our membership, organizing trainings, and making presentations all over Toronto.
- The Relief Line Committee is pushing for the Relief Line to be built as soon as possible, and to serve neighbourhoods like Flemingdon and Thorncliffe Park.
- The Digital and Media Committee continues to keep rider concerns in the spotlight.
- The new Accessibility Committee is gearing up for the year ahead and looking for new members.

Three people were nominated and approved as new board members: Ryan Wong, Mike Sullivan, and John Richmond. We are looking forward to working with them. Kingsley Kwok, Marco Covi, and Jane Mercer will continue for another board term (2 years), and Helen Lee, Suhail Barot, and Joy Robertson will continue their terms until next year.
