The Scarborough RT will shut down in 2023, at least 7 years before a subway replacement opens (2030 at the earliest).

What is City Council deciding on March 10th?

Council will vote on a motion that proposes:

  • Keeping the Scarborough RT corridor for rapid transit.
  • Approving a feasibility study and cost estimate for Bus Rapid Transit in the SRT corridor so that if buses are the only option, they will be fast and not stuck in traffic.
  • Asking the TTC to publicly release the "Integrity Assessment for Life Extension/Continued Operation” report about the future of the Scarborough RT, so the public gets the facts.
  • Approving a technical assessment of a light rail option, including length of construction time.

Could the SRT life be extended?

The TTC studied the option of extending the SRT to 2030, but cannot guarantee that this would be a reliable transit option due to parts being obsolete, wear and tear on the track bed, and more. There would also be periods of lower service because the SRT vehicles would need to be removed for overhauling. That's why we need a reliable replacement before 2023 and why your Councillor must vote to make the 2018 SRT assessment report public, so we know all the facts.

What happens if Council votes "NO" on March 10th?

The TTC report admits that on-street buses will add time to your commute “due to operating in mixed traffic.”

Are there any other short-term solutions?

The Province could fund free GO-TTC transfers so we have the option to use the GO network. The City can provide safe and accessible cycling routes to get around and get to rapid transit stations.

Your commute will get LONGER when the Scarborough RT closes in 2023. But it doesn't need to be this way.

Use the form above to send a message, or call your Councillor right now and ask them to vote YES to Councillor Ainslie and Matlow's motion on March 10th, 2021.

📸 Rally to Open the Crosstown

On February 19, 2025, TTCriders held the Rally to Open the Crosstown at Yonge and Eglinton to call for answers about the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRT projects. Promised opening dates for the LRTs have come and gone, while transit costs have skyrocketed under Metrolinx. Transit riders are looking for answers and credible opening dates for the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRTs.
TTCriders asked every party to invest in running TTC service and new LRTs with a 50% operating subsidy for local transit systems, and to give the TTC back control over running Toronto transit, to keep costs down and increase accountability.
