The TTC has released a report recommending that the Scarborough RT (“Line 3”) be shut down in 2023. But a rapid transit replacement won't be built until 2029 at the very earliest. People travelling between Scarborough Town Centre and Kennedy Station will be taking buses for at least six years. Click here to read the staff report (PDF)

What are Scarborough Transit Action and TTCriders calling for?

  • Service that matches current SRT service levels.
  • Bus rapid transit or bus-only lanes so buses can travel as quickly as possible. The TTC report admits that “one of the main concerns with the bus replacement options is increased travel time variability due to operating in mixed traffic” (p. 22).
  • Buy enough buses as soon as possible so service across Toronto and Scarborough doesn’t suffer when buses get redeployed to replace SRT service. The report says 60 buses are needed.
  • Keep the SRT track bed and right-of-way while other options are being explored so we don't lose valuable public space and a possible back-up transit option (for example: Bus Rapid Transit).
  • The provincial government should fund free GO-TTC transfers so that Scarborough riders have more travel options using the GO network.

What will happen next?

On February 10th, 2021, TTC staff are asking the TTC Board to move forward with assessing two potential options to replace the Scarborough RT with bus service starting in 2023. They are also planning public consultation about changes to the bus network and will submit a report with a final decision from the TTC Board in the 3rd quarter of 2021.

Letter & Survey: TTC must exchange expired tokens and tickets

Do you still have TTC tokens or paper senior/student tickets or day passes? The TTC has announced that they will stop accepting TTC tokens and paper tickets after December 31, 2024. But the TTC will not be issuing exchanges. This is unfair to people who have saved up tokens and tickets, especially low-income seniors. Gift cards and permanent stamps never expire --  why are transit fares any different?
