TTCriders take on the Transit Advisory Panel’s Report on How to Fund Transit Expansion
This morning, the Wynne Government’s Transit Investment Strategy Advisory Panel released its recommendations for how the Province should raise revenue to pay for transit expansion.
Efficient: adj. 2a. Acting or producing effectively with a minimum of waste, expense, or unnecessary effort.
“Efficiency” has been the buzz word of late in official discussions about the TTC.
I first noticed it in the TTC’s proposed 2014 operating budget document. A few days later I was at the TTC board meeting in order to depute on this budget and heard the TTC commissioners repeat this same word as an accomplishment and a primary concern. I was a bit surprised at this emphasis on “efficiency”; here I thought that we would have a discussion about how to get the things that are more important to me as a TTC rider and a Torontonian, such as whether the TTC will help Torontonians get around more easily or quickly next year (the operating budget document helps answer that question, and the answer is basically “no”).

680 News did a comprehensive summary of the deputations by Torontonians on the City Budget process, including mentioning the concerns of some of our members and supporters. TTCriders is calling on the City to contribute more to the TTC. Thanks to all of those who came out.
