from a TTCriders member, Cindy Loch-Drake about her positive and empowering
experience last Thursday:
It was an early start but well worth the effort for myself and other
volunteers who handed out TTCriders’ VOTE TRANSIT GUIDE at Kennedy Station
last Thursday. We were all surprised with the positive response we got from
riders coming in and out of the station.
Most people accepted the flyer and stood reading it while waiting for the
train. Approaching people I said, “There’s a provincial election coming up
on June 12, please vote for better transit. Here is a report card.”
It seems riders on the TTC appreciate our non-partisan approach, which
gives them a chance to weigh the party platforms on transit for
themselves.
I am encouraged and excited about spreading the word. I plan to distribute
flyers at the subway stop closest to my house during the Monday morning rush
hour and at the All-Candidates meeting in my neighbourhood Monday
evening.
So often I have felt powerless – fuming or stressing when the TTC let me
down. It feels great to do something in the precious days left before the
provincial election!
