TTCriders is looking for a Fundraising, Organizing & Outreach Director

TTCriders is a grassroots transit advocacy organization that gives Torontonians who use the TTC a voice. It emerged as a response to the tens of thousands of transit users who said that they want better transit in Toronto.

The hiring committee of TTCriders is seeking a director who will oversee the growth and success of TTCriders’ organizational development so it can become a thriving, financially sustainable, democratic membership-based organization of TTC users.

The ideal candidate should be a regular TTC user with a good understanding of transit issues in Toronto. They are also detail-oriented and collaborative with demonstrated experience in board management, fundraising, civic engagement, campaigning, and organizational development. The hired candidate will report to the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities include:

Fundraising and membership management

  • Review and implement TTCriders membership strategy to expand membership from 140 members to 1,500 members in two years
  • Create innovative member offerings to encourage membership growth and retention, including the creation of a TTCriders membership card that offers discounts to members at stores and elsewhere
  • Track and analyze member growth and retention
  • Liaise and provide support to TTCriders members
  • Manage the installation of TTCriders’ membership database and train key volunteers to use the database
  • Enter member data into database
  • Coordinate outreach to members, such as emails, mass-mailings, and regular social media communications
  • Manage the budget, track income and expenses, and more
Organizational development:
  • Work with the board to organize the annual AGM
  • Work with volunteers to recruit new active-members to join committees and to ensure TTCriders active members reflect the diversity of TTC users
  • Organize committee meetings and help coordinate volunteers
Campaigning and Outreach:
  • Develop effective outreach materials, such as TTCriders t-shirts and postcards
  • Organize canvassing and outreach events in partnership with TTCriders volunteers to educate users from across Toronto - and especially in under-served transit neighborhoods - on transit issues and to encourage people to join as members
  • Organize events, demonstrations, and actions (in coordination with External Affairs Committee) to advance TTCriders’ campaign goals of increasing service and lowering fares
  • Build relationships and engage key organizations active on transit issues
  • Lobby and communicate with elected officials, TTC staff, and other institutional leaders.
Qualifications include:
  • Working knowledge and experience campaigning with TTCriders or other transit-related groups
  • Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Great interpersonal communications skills with an ability to multi-task
  • Extensive knowledge of media networks in Toronto and social media savvy
  • Experience with fundraising, and membership expansion and retention
Terms of Employment:

This is a part-time contract position at $25 per hour for 20 hours a week starting September 3rd, 2014 – August 31, 2015. TTCriders is an equal opportunity employer.

Letter & Survey: TTC must exchange expired tokens and tickets

“Rally to Fix the TTC” calls for investment in repairing subway slow zones during National Transit Week

(Toronto, ON) – Transit advocacy organization TTCriders will hold a rally today at 5:00pm outside Bathurst Subway Station to call on federal Members of Parliament to invest in TTC repairs and new subway trains on Line 2 by accelerating implementation of the Canada Public Transit Fund. The rally is part of a national “Transit Action Week” being organized in 5 Canadian cities. (Cantonese, Mandarin, French spokespeople available.)
