They've never seen a public consultation like this one

At a Wheel-Trans public consultation earlier this year, choir members delivered a musical message to oppose the TTC’s plan to force some people with disabilities and seniors onto the conventional TTCalso known as the "Family of Services" program.

Long-time Wheel-Trans user and choir member Jane Field explains why the Family of Services program must not become mandatory in this new video.

Do you like to sing?

Members of the "Common Thread Community Chorus" are passionate about both singing and public transit. Some choir members rely on Wheel-Trans to get to choir practice and performances, and for all other aspects of their lives like health appointments, getting groceries, and seeing family.

City Councillors will be voting in a few months on Toronto's 2025 City Budget. The budget determines how often your bus, streetcar, or subway shows up, the cost of fares, protecting Wheel-Trans service levels, and more.

Pre-budget consultation meetings are happening soon, between October 19th and October 30th, 2024:

  • Saturday, October 19 (12-2pm) at North York Memorial Hall (5110 Yonge St)
  • Wednesday October 23 (7-9pm) Online/Virtual
  • Thursday, October 24 (7-9pm) at Scarborough Civic Centre (150 Borough Dr)
  • Sunday, October 27 (12-2pm) at Rose Avenue Junior Public School (675 Ontario St)
  • Monday, October 28 (7-9pm) at Etobicoke Olympium (590 Rathburn Road)
  • Wednesday October 30 (7-9pm) Online/Virtual

Speaking up for transit investment works! In last year's budget, TTCriders convinced City Council to allocate the $70 million dollars needed to build a replacement busway for the Scarborough RT, and to continue investing in restoring TTC service levels.

P.S. If you are a Wheel-Trans user, you may also be interested in speaking at the next Toronto Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting on Thursday, October 17th (City Hall or online).

TTC staff will be reporting back on the public consultations held earlier this year (the same consultation that Common Thread sang at!). This is a chance to speak up again about the issue and demand answers about when the TTC intends to make a decision about making Family of Services mandatory. Please reply to me if you would like to attend the City Hall meeting on the morning of Thursday, October 17th.

(P.P.S. This is not to be confused with the other big TTCriders event coming up on October 17th! Save the date for next weeks' Rally to Fix the TTC on Thursday, October 17th at 5:00PM at Bathurst Station!)

Letter & Survey: TTC must exchange expired tokens and tickets

Do you still have TTC tokens or paper senior/student tickets or day passes? The TTC has announced that they will stop accepting TTC tokens and paper tickets after December 31, 2024. But the TTC will not be issuing exchanges. This is unfair to people who have saved up tokens and tickets, especially low-income seniors. Gift cards and permanent stamps never expire --  why are transit fares any different?
