The province of Ontario is getting rid of double fares between GO Transit and local transit agencies in Mississauga, York Region, and Durham Region.

But the TTC has been left out.

Ask the provincial party leaders if they will commit to free transfers between TTC, GO, and Union Pearson Express within Toronto!

Ontario political parties are deciding on their election platforms now. You can make a difference by using our email tool to send a quick question to all provincial party leaders.

Background info: Why free transfers between GO, TTC, and Union Pearson Express?

  • Affordability and fairness for suburban transit users. A free transfer between TTC and the GO train or Union Pearson Express will unlock more rapid transit options overnight for people living in Scarborough, Etobicoke, Weston, and northwest Toronto. Right now, many people take longer TTC trips because they can’t afford two fares.
  • Cheaper fares between GO and TTC used to exist. But funding for the $1.50 discount on double fares was cancelled by the provincial government in 2020. The program was popular: Ridership of GO and TTC increased by 27% in the first year of the discount.
  • Solutions for Scarborough. When Line 3 Scarborough RT closes in 2023, having more rapid transit options available will help some of the 35,000 transit users who currently rely on the RT.
  • Toronto is spending $1.5 billion to build new GO stations within the city (also known as “SmartTrack” stations). Eliminating double fares between TTC and GO will mean more residents are able to use the GO network in our city.

What policy did the province of Ontario just announce?

  • Starting March 14, 2022 local transit will be free for riders connecting to and from GO Transit on municipal transit systems with GO Transit co-fare agreements.
  • Local transit agencies with co-fare agreements include: Durham Region Transit, Milton Transit, Grand River Transit, Guelph Transit, Oakville Transit, MiWay, Brampton Transit, Hamilton Street Railway, Burlington Transit, Bradford West Gwillimbury Transit, York Region Transit, and Barrie Transit.
