What happened when we went to a public meeting with Transport Minister Del Duca?

TTCriders attended a  packed Town Hall with Ontario Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca. Our transit minister has refused to meet with us, despite repeated requests.

A key issue that many attendees present brought up was the issue of the controversial Union Pearson Express train, which is running virtually empty at just 12% capacity.  That comes as no surprise because it costs $27.50 to board the train one way.

Despite overwhelming demand and need for the Union Pearson train to be turned into a true public transit line with TTC level fares, Steven Del Duca "We have no intention of changing the service model or fares for the UPX anytime in the near future."  What a travesty.

Many residents in attendance also brought up Metrolinx's proposal to build a 1.6 km bridge through the west end of Toronto.   We don't know a lot about this issue yet, but here's link to MP Andrew Cash's letter about the super bridge, and we recommend you contact the Options for Davenport organizing group to find out more.  They can be contacted at [email protected].

📸 Rally to Open the Crosstown

On February 19, 2025, TTCriders held the Rally to Open the Crosstown at Yonge and Eglinton to call for answers about the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRT projects. Promised opening dates for the LRTs have come and gone, while transit costs have skyrocketed under Metrolinx. Transit riders are looking for answers and credible opening dates for the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRTs.
TTCriders asked every party to invest in running TTC service and new LRTs with a 50% operating subsidy for local transit systems, and to give the TTC back control over running Toronto transit, to keep costs down and increase accountability.
