Naomi Klein keynoted our AGM. Here's what she said about transit activism and climate change.

What an incredible evening it was at the TTCriders' Annual General Meeting at the Steelworker's Hall in Toronto.   Over one hundred people gathered not only to hear journalist and activist Naomi Klein speak about the importance of transit in Toronto and how to get involved and be a great transit advocate.

Special thanks to Brenda Thompson for chairing the meeting and moderating the many insightful questions Naomi received after her remarks. It was clear that many in the audience felt both moved and inspired to continue the fight for fair transit in Toronto, not least due to the beneficial impact a properly-funded transit system would have on our environment.

Thanks to Moya and Herman for the fabulous spread provided during the intermission.  Their wonderful food gave us some much-needed fuel to discuss the business of TTCriders.

After the break, Shaun Cleaver provided an update as to the many campaigns TTCriders have spearheaded throughout the city.  We were shown one of our favourites of the past year - a video made by our own Adam Smith featuring MPP Cheri DiNovo tied to [green-screened, we promise] tracks.  This video was created, of course, to raise awareness of the many issues with the UP Express, a line which is both diesel-fueled instead of electrified and far too expensive for the average user.

Two new board members were then elected by you, the membership of TTCriders, at our AGM - Diana Campbell and Jessie Macaulay.  If I might speak for both Diana and myself for a moment, I must say that we are both excited and honoured to formally join the TTCriders community and hope to contribute our skills and ideas to a growing grassroots organization.

After the close of the business portion of the AGM, we had an excellent raffle for prizes generously donated by so many amazing organizations across the city.  Our TTCriders members walked away with memberships from Zip Car, AutoShare, tickets to Soulpepper Theatre Company, gift certificates from Via Rail Canada, Urbane Cycle, Snakes and Lattes, Tarragon Theatre, Steam Whistle Brewery, and packages from the Comedy Bar among so many others.  A great big thanks goes out to each and every one of these awesome organizations for their support.

We will certainly all be at it again next year for an even bigger and better Annual General Meeting!  The best way to be a part of the action is to join TTCriders as a member.  Click here for more information.

See you next year!

📸 Rally to Open the Crosstown

On February 19, 2025, TTCriders held the Rally to Open the Crosstown at Yonge and Eglinton to call for answers about the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRT projects. Promised opening dates for the LRTs have come and gone, while transit costs have skyrocketed under Metrolinx. Transit riders are looking for answers and credible opening dates for the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRTs.
TTCriders asked every party to invest in running TTC service and new LRTs with a 50% operating subsidy for local transit systems, and to give the TTC back control over running Toronto transit, to keep costs down and increase accountability.
