(Toronto, ON) – Transit advocacy organization TTCriders will hold a rally on February 19, 2025 to call for answers about the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRT projects and ask all provincial parties to commit to solutions for more reliable transit.

“Transit riders need answers about why LRTs are not open and how provincial parties plan to take care of the transit we already have,” said TTCriders spokesperson Nigel Morton. “TTCriders is asking every provincial party to commit to clear the TTC’s repair backlog, provide stable operations funding, give the TTC back control of rapid transit projects, and chip in for Toronto's plans for an Eglinton East LRT and Waterfront East LRT. The New Deal was a good start, but Ontario needs a new transit funding model.”

WHAT: Rally to open the Crosstown LRT. Transit riders will hold a rally to call for answers about why provincially-owned LRTs are not open and seek commitments from all provincial parties to permanently fund the operating costs of new LRTs, clear the TTC’s repair backlog, and give the TTC back control to run Toronto transit projects.

WHEN: 5:00pm-6:00pm, Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

WHERE: Corner of Yonge and Eglinton (exterior northwest corner).

The transit group will circulate a questionnaire to all provincial parties before the rally asking if they will commit to:

  1. Provide stable operations funding to run the TTC and new LRT lines, by establishing a new transit funding model in Ontario that renews provincial support for 50% of transit agency operating subsidies;

  2. Clear the TTC’s repair backlog by increasing capital funding to the TTC, so the agency can fix all slow zones;

  3. Give the TTC back control over running Toronto transit, to keep costs down and increase accountability;

  4. Invest in Toronto’s transit priorities including the Eglinton East LRT and Waterfront East LRT projects.
