We're facing fare hikes and lower service. Now is not the time to consider TTC executive performance bonuses.

A TTC board committee today approved

>a recommendation to commit $60,000 for a report studying whether TTC executives should get up to a 25% performance bonus.

Now is not the time to consider performance bonuses for TTC executives because the TTC is chronically underfunded, and riders are facing fare hikes and service cuts. Executive performance bonuses will not give riders better service. The TTC needs to find another $99M just to maintain 2015 service levels, and it’s obvious to every rider out there that we need more service, not more of the same, or less. If we really want to improve TTC, the city and province need to fairly fund the TTC so we can reduce overcrowding, lower fares, and increase service. To put this spending in context, it would take a minimum wage worker 2 and a 1/2 years to earn the $60,000 the TTC is paying for this study.  The $60,000 will be used to pay a consulting company, the Hay Group, to decide what the executive bonuses would be.  The actual cost of implementing any bonuses would likely be a lot more. TTC board members present said they would not approve performance bonuses recommended in the report.
