The Gardiner carries 5,200 people. The TTC carries 125,000 people. Which piece of infrastructure makes sense to invest in?

Oliver Moore from the Globe and Mail wrote about the equipment failure yesterday shut down Toronto’s entire subway system during the morning rush hour, laying bare the city’s reliance on transit and raising questions about priorities as council prepares to debate the future of the Gardiner Expressway.

TTCriders responded by mentioning that the Gardiner expressway only carries 5,200 people during the AM rush hour, compared to the 100,000 to 125,000 people that got delayed on the aging critically underfunded TTC yesterday.

We are calling for the city to explore the cheaper Gardiner option and invest the money into cycling and public transit.
