TTC proposes major service cuts to bus routes

Send an email to your Councillor and Mayor Ford now and let them know you support transit expansion through the Transit City light rail network and that you don't support cuts to TTC bus service. To send your email click here.

Wednesday January 12 at 9am the TTC met to discuss cutting service to 48 bus routes throughout the City.

A Toronto transit advocate also posted a great map of the most effected routes on his blog (click here) and we have listed them below.

Service cuts only encourage people to drive on our already congested roads.  Evening cuts hurt riders who work evenings, students commuting home from evening classes, local businesses open late, and the ability of all Torontonians to choose public transit as an alternative to the car.

You can find a flyer here to print off and share with friends, family, and fellow TTCriders - encouraging them to come speak out against the service cuts. Download the flyer by clicking here.

Please come out to the TTC meeting: 1PM, Wednesday, February 2 Toronto City Hall, second floor 100 Queen St, West

If you would like to speak at the meeting, email [email protected].

Since Mayor Ford took office he has built a rather dubious record on transit issues.

On his first day in office, he declared Transit City, the rapid light rail network extending to all corners of our city, dead and suggested that small and expensive extensions to the subway network were his preference. Should the subway expansion plan proceed, one in five Torontonians will lose access to fast, reliable transit. You can email your councillor and the mayor's office in support of the light rail network here.

Toronto, ON — TTCriders, a membership-based transit advocacy organization, is celebrating a victory today as, after hearing a marathon six hours of speakers, with most voicing support on the issue, the Executive Committee approved RapidTO dedicated transit lanes on Bathurst and Dufferin Streets. This would not have been possible without transit riders standing up and speaking in favour of this common-sense solution.
