Tory says he wants to restore service on cut routes; #grumpyrider selfies are having an impact

Just days after launching our #grumpyrider campaign, John Tory on Thursday said
> he wants to restore service to 104 bus routes cut in 2011-2012. This is a positive step forward because Tory's election platform did not include any promises to improve service now.  We played a role in this shift! But your #grumpyrider selfies are still needed. This is because Tory did not reaffirm his campaign promise to freeze fares in 2015, and we need much more service than a restoration of bus routes that should never have been cut. Also, Tory said restoring service depends on finding the money, which means we must take action to ensure these promises are funded. We are calling for at a minimum the service improvements recommended by the TTC in August.  These improvements include:
  • riders 10-minutes or better service on all major routes,
  • two hour fare transfers,
  • more express buses,
  • more night time service, and more.

📸 Rally to Open the Crosstown

On February 19, 2025, TTCriders held the Rally to Open the Crosstown at Yonge and Eglinton to call for answers about the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRT projects. Promised opening dates for the LRTs have come and gone, while transit costs have skyrocketed under Metrolinx. Transit riders are looking for answers and credible opening dates for the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRTs.
TTCriders asked every party to invest in running TTC service and new LRTs with a 50% operating subsidy for local transit systems, and to give the TTC back control over running Toronto transit, to keep costs down and increase accountability.
