This is outrageous: The City and the Province refuse to fairly fund the TTC, so the TTC Board is considering yet another fare hike

The TTC’s proposal to raise another $30 million from fares was included in a preliminary budget presented at Thursday's TTC budget committee meeting.

We're outraged the TTC board is considering hiking fares yet again in 2016.   Fares have been rising faster than inflation for years.

Unless the city and province fairly fund the TTC, riders are in for big fare hikes and cuts to 2015 service levels in 2016.  The TTC needs to find an additional $99 million above this year’s budget just to maintain 2015 service levels.

Riders are sick and tired of being forced to pay more for a service that is plagued with sardine-level overcrowding, delays, breakdowns, and infrequent service.

The TTC gets the least amount of government support per ride compared to all other major public transit systems in North America.

Currently, the TTC gets just 85 cents government support a ride. The TTC received about 93 cents a ride in 2010 under the Mayor Miller.

We're calling on City Hall and the Province to fairly fund the TTC so riders can get more service and lower fares.

The provincial government failed to provide any new funding to the TTC in its 2015 budget, released in April this year.

📸 Rally to Open the Crosstown

On February 19, 2025, TTCriders held the Rally to Open the Crosstown at Yonge and Eglinton to call for answers about the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRT projects. Promised opening dates for the LRTs have come and gone, while transit costs have skyrocketed under Metrolinx. Transit riders are looking for answers and credible opening dates for the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRTs.
TTCriders asked every party to invest in running TTC service and new LRTs with a 50% operating subsidy for local transit systems, and to give the TTC back control over running Toronto transit, to keep costs down and increase accountability.
