Hands Off Toronto!

Transit riders need to have a voice at City Hall about the decisions that impact our lives.

But new Premier Doug Ford has introduced a bill that will make our city less democratic. With Bill 5, Ford intends to slash Toronto City Council from 47 seats to 25 before the October 22 municipal election.

Like Premier Ford’s plan to break up the TTC and take over our subways, Bill 5 is all about provincial control, not about saving money. Meanwhile, a new poll shows that the majority of Toronto residents want the bill postponed until after October 22, or scrapped entirely.

TAKE ACTION TO STOP BILL 5:

  1. Call Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and urge him to put a stop to Bill 5. Call Minister Clark with just one click, here
  2. Attend Defend Democracy: Hands Off Toronto! on Thursday, August 16 from 7pm-9pm. Please RSVP to this important public meeting and learn about challenges to Bill 5 and how we can take action.
Read more about what Bill 5 means for Toronto, including the costs of redrawing ward boundaries in the middle of the election.

TTCriders has been holding ward meetings to discuss our transit priorities and plans for the next 3 months. We won't stop being focused on the issues — improving TTC service, winning funding for the next two phases of the low income pass, and keeping our transit system public — but we also need to come together with allied organizations in Toronto to stop Bill 5.

📸 Rally to Open the Crosstown

On February 19, 2025, TTCriders held the Rally to Open the Crosstown at Yonge and Eglinton to call for answers about the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRT projects. Promised opening dates for the LRTs have come and gone, while transit costs have skyrocketed under Metrolinx. Transit riders are looking for answers and credible opening dates for the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRTs.
TTCriders asked every party to invest in running TTC service and new LRTs with a 50% operating subsidy for local transit systems, and to give the TTC back control over running Toronto transit, to keep costs down and increase accountability.
