TTCriders supports a motion from Councillor Jamaal Myers and Councillor Amber Morley for publicly appointed TTC Board members to be regular transit users, represent the 4 community council areas of Toronto and East York, North York, Scarborough and Etobicoke-York, and ensure that at least one Board member identifies as a person with a disability.
TTC Board members should use public transit
Councillor Jamaal Myers and Councillor Amber Morley have introduced a City Council motion to diversify civic appointees on the Toronto Transit Commission Board.
Decisions about public transit should be made by people who understand the system from a rider's perspective, and reflect the diversity of Toronto transit users.

Dear Toronto City Councillors,
I am writing to urge you to vote in support of MM6.33:Diversifying Civic Appointees on the Toronto Transit Commission Board, to ensure equitable geographic and demographic representation.
I was surprised to learn that there is no current requirement that publicly appointed TTC Board members use transit or represent all areas of Toronto and the diversity of public transit users. People who use transit regularly and understand the system from a rider's experience will bring important questions and perspectives to the TTC Board.
Transit issues vary in different parts of our city and the TTC Board should strive to represent the diversity of transit users in Toronto with equitable geographic representation from all 4 community council areas of Toronto and East York, North York, Scarborough and Etobicoke-York. Transit users in Toronto are mostly women, shift workers, lower-income, and racialized, and these perspectives should be represented at a Board level.
The lived experience of people with disabilities should be valued by ensuring that at least one of the publicly appointed TTC Board members identifies as a person with a disability.
Sincerely
[Your name, your postal code]
