Long-term TTC planning needs a strong and dependable financial foundation that allows us to plan confidently and protect service reliability. A system of the TTC’s scale requires provincial and federal investment, and I will advocate for stable, predictable funding partnerships with other orders of government. But financial partnership should not mean surrendering local decision-making. Toronto must retain authority over how its local transit system is run.
Partnership can also add value to our transit system in ways beyond funding. Better coordination with Metrolinx and other transit agencies can improve connections, reduce friction between systems, and make regional travel easier. In Etobicoke Centre, for example, TTC routes connect with Mississauga’s MiWay system. I will enthusiastically pursue opportunities to make these systems work better together while maintaining Toronto’s authority over its local transit system.
