Advisory: 250 transit users to gather in Scarborough on Sunday for "Transit Rider Summit"

(Toronto, ON) – Transit advocacy organization TTCriders is set to host a large gathering of transit riders and advocates from across the GTA at the Scarborough Civic Centre on Sunday, June 16. More than 250 people have registered for the free day of workshops and panel discussions.

  • WHAT: Transit Rider Summit: Free day of workshops, panels, and discussions. Attendees will take a group photo to demonstrate public support for investing in public transit. Volunteers will be available for comment about issues facing Toronto transit users. 
  • DATE: Sunday, June 16, 2024.
  • TIME: 11:00AM - 4:00PM. Mayor Olivia Chow will deliver opening remarks at 11:00am.
  • LOCATION: Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Drive (enter via Albert Campbell Square main entrance).

The event will kick off with a panel discussion featuring prominent transit advocate and commentator Steve Munro, TTCriders Board member and Scarborough resident Krissan Veerasingam, and TTCriders organizer August Puranauth.  

Discussion topics include: Federal funding for the TTC, Eglinton East LRT, affordability and fare capping, improving King Street, and more. Workshop topics include: Know Your Transit Rights, How to Meet With Elected Officials, How to Plan a Campaign, How to Appeal Your Wheel-Trans Status, and more.

Letter & Survey: TTC must exchange expired tokens and tickets

Do you still have TTC tokens or paper senior/student tickets or day passes? The TTC has announced that they will stop accepting TTC tokens and paper tickets after December 31, 2024. But the TTC will not be issuing exchanges. This is unfair to people who have saved up tokens and tickets, especially low-income seniors. Gift cards and permanent stamps never expire --  why are transit fares any different?

“Rally to Fix the TTC” calls for investment in repairing subway slow zones during National Transit Week

(Toronto, ON) – Transit advocacy organization TTCriders will hold a rally today at 5:00pm outside Bathurst Subway Station to call on federal Members of Parliament to invest in TTC repairs and new subway trains on Line 2 by accelerating implementation of the Canada Public Transit Fund. The rally is part of a national “Transit Action Week” being organized in 5 Canadian cities. (Cantonese, Mandarin, French spokespeople available.)
