Mayor Olivia Chow has proposed to freeze TTC fares in 2025, but it's not a done deal. On Tuesday, February 11, City Councillors will vote on the City Budget - and could vote against a TTC fare freeze. Your voice is needed to urge City Councillors to support a TTC fare freeze for affordable transit!
TTC fares have risen nearly twice the rate of inflation in the past 30 years.
Transit riders have faced several year-after-year 10-cent fare increases. TTC fares have risen far faster than the rate of inflation to protect the lowest property tax rate of a major city in Ontario. During a cost-of-living crisis, transit riders deserve affordability through a fare freeze.
10 City Councillors have already voted in favour of considering a TTC fare increase this year.
On February 14, 2024, 10 City Councillors voted to consider a TTC fare increase in the 2025 Budget as part of CC15.1 - Motion 7, introduced by Councillor Jon Burnside. These City Councillors could vote against the fare freeze during the February 11 Budget vote, and push to increase TTC fares.

“Hello [Councillor Name],
My name is [Your Name] and I am a transit rider and resident of [Ward Name]. I am asking you to support a TTC fare freeze in the 2025 City Budget. Fares have increased beyond the rate of inflation over the last several decades, and it is unfair to ask transit riders to shell out even more money for fares to subsidize lower property taxes. The proposed fare freeze matters to me because I rely on the TTC, and transit riders deserve affordability too! With Toronto's increasing cost of living, it is important that those who rely on transit can afford to get to work, school, medical appointments, and more. I look forward to hearing from you.”
