Survey: Transit discount for low-income & minimum wage workers

Toronto plans to delay a fare discount for workers earning minimum wage and low incomes. With people losing jobs and shifts during the latest pandemic wave, this discount is needed more than ever.

What you think of Toronto's plan for a fare discount? Click through the 5 survey questions to let us know.

The Fair Pass was approved by Toronto City Council in 2016. It provides discounted single fares ($2.10) and monthly passes ($123.25) to eligible Toronto residents, similar to senior and student discount rates.

The last phase of the discount is not yet funded in Toronto's 2022 City Budget. The last phase will extend the discount to people earning minimum wage or low incomes (approximately $29,000 after taxes or less for a single person).

You are currently eligible for the discount if you receive OW, ODSP, a Child Care Fee Subsidy. Click here to apply for the Fair Pass on the City of Toronto website. Soon, people living Rent Geared to Income housing will be eligible (funding for this phase was included in the 2021 City Budget).

If you receive OW or ODSP, you are not currently eligible for the Fair Pass if you receive $100 or more in medical or employment transportation supports. But City Councillors could change that this year. Click through the survey questions to let TTCriders know how this would affect you.
