About the role
2026 is a pivotal year for transit: the launch of the TTC’s three-year Ridership Growth Strategy and a municipal election year. With new investment on the line, we’re hiring a part-time Organizer to build rider power—recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers to take action during the 2026 City Budget process and through the October 2026 election cycle. Under the general supervision of the Executive Director and as part of a team that includes volunteers, other organizations, and other staff, the Organizer will be a key component of winning victories for transit users.
Responsibilities
- Volunteer Recruitment & Leadership Development (primary focus)
- Recruit, onboard, and retain volunteers; grow a core team of rider leaders across the city.
- Design and deliver short trainings (deputation prep, canvassing skills, story-of-self, outreach scripts).
- Set campaign goals and evaluate progress and outcomes
- Track metrics (shifts, contacts, sign-ups, volunteer retention) and keep lists clean.
- Develop and implement communications strategies including media relations, writing content for social media, website, email blasts, print, and other materials, and overseeing production of digital materials
- Keep up to date on relevant transit policy developments
- Other campaign-related duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- 1–3+ years of experience in community, labour, electoral, or issue-based organizing (volunteer or paid).
- Experience working with volunteers and coalitions.
- Strong communication skills (in person, phone/SMS, and written).
- Proven ability to motivate and lead teams.
- Organized and data-literate: can track goals, manage lists, and capture notes consistently.
- Alignment with TTCriders’ mission and a commitment to equity, anti-oppression, and accessibility.
- University or college degree or equivalent experience.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
- Creative, resourceful, and strategic thinker with problem-solving skills
- Understanding of social justice issues and commitment to anti-oppressive practices
- Familiarity with digital campaign tools (e.g. NationBuilder, NewMode, ActionButton) and social media platforms (e.g. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok) is an asset
- Graphic design skills is an asset
- Speaking or writing in language(s) additional to English is an asset
- Experience working with the media is an asset
Terms of Employment
Hours: 25 hours/week, through August 31, 2026 (with possibility of extension subject to funding).
Compensation: $26/hour
Start date: Early November 2025.
Location: Toronto, Canada. Hybrid work, with 1 to 2 days in office in downtown Toronto.
Flexibility required to work during weekends and evenings when volunteers and members of the public are available for meetings and events.
