At this Wednesday's TTC Commission meeting there is a motion to ask City Council for additional funds needed to improve transit service on several overcrowded routes. The TTC has finally recognized they need to operate more service to meet the needs of the incredibly increasing number of riders.
Council Listened and Restored TTC Funding
During the City budget vote at the January 17th City Council meeting, Councillor Josh Colle moved a motion to use $15 million of the City’s 2011 surplus to avoid cuts to a number of valued city services. This included directing $5 million to the TTC to prevent service reductions.
It's time for one last push to save TTC service
Toronto transit riders could be in for a rough 2012.
In addition to January's fare hike, the City is poised to slash service on busy bus and streetcar routes and is planning to cancel an order for 108 badly needed new buses.

Torontonians to TTC Chair: Please help stop the cuts and fare increase
Public outcry has exploded as Torontonians found out there will be cuts to 56 bus routes and 6 streetcar lines in the wards they travel through because of a 10% budget cut forced by City Hall. As a result, TTCriders issued a letter today asking Councillor Stintz, Chair of the TTC, to help stop the cuts and fare hike.
TTCriders Meeting Tuesday October 25 at North York Civic Centre
On Tuesday October 25th TTCriders will meet to discuss the current state of public transit in Toronto.
This meeting will include a question and answer session with special guest, Chris Upfold, the TTC's Chief Customer Service Officer. Mr. Upfold has agreed to attend the meeting, answer questions transit riders have, and he has stated his interest in working WITH US to help improve the TTC.
Transit Commission Approved Misguided Service Cuts
At their special budget meeting this morning, the Transit Commission ignored the pleas of transit riders and approved an Operating Budget that will reduce TTC service throughout the city in 2012.
At a time of record ridership, it is even more of a major step backward to reduce TTC service. The budget adopted by the Commission means riders can look forward to even more crowding on TTC vehicles, reductions in the frequency of buses, and less transit vehicles operating during rush hour on some of the TTC’s busiest routes.
Mayor Ford’s Transit Cuts Are Bad for Business
Mayor Rob Ford is forcing the TTC to make bad business decisions by imposing an absolute 10% cut to TTC funding. With more riders than at any time in the TTC’s 90 year history, cuts to TTC service are completely unjustifiable!
