Are fare hikes and more service cuts coming on November 21st?

Riders, we have a problem.  We're about to get our 7th fare hike in 6 years.  The TTC is cutting service on 15 routes this month, and there are more cuts to come.

Here are the routes that are getting cut:

  • 35 Jane
  • 43 Kennedy
  • 57 Midland
  • 68 Warden
  • 73 Royal York
  • 79 Scarlett Road
  • 108 Downsview
  • 121 Fort-York Esplanade
  • 124 Sunnybrook
  • 129 McCowan North
  • 133 Neilson
  • 161 Rogers Road
  • 168 Symington
  • 504 King
  • 514 Cherry
We're getting service cuts and fare hikes because Mayor John Tory and City Council are refusing to fairly fund the TTC.  This past July, they made the TTC's funding crisis worse by voting to cut the TTC's 2017 operating budget.

We say no to the cuts. You have the right to fast, frequent and affordable transit in Toronto.  Let's stop this race to the bottom together.

1. Send a message to Mayor Tory and your councillor calling for a better TTC.

2. Join us at the TTC Board meeting on Monday, November 21st at 10:00 am at City Hall, 100 Queen St W. Sign up to give a deputation and speak out against the cuts.  Wear your running gear!  Meet us at the rotunda at 9.50am.

3. Do you want to depute? We are organizing a conference call on Friday Nov. 18 from 3pm - 4pm to help people who want to depute understand what's in the budget, what you could say in your deputation, and more.   RSVP with [email protected].

We already pay our fair share. The TTC gets the least amount of government support per ride compared to all major transit systems, making it the most underfunded system in North America.  In 2010, the TTC received a city subsidy of 93 cents per ride.  Currently, the TTC gets a city subsidy of just 89 cents per ride.
