Call City Council: STOP two-tier transit!

On Thursday, December 13th, City Council will debate the provincial government's plan to break apart the TTC and steal away valuable transit assets that belong to us. Breaking apart the TTC won't improve our commutes, it will create a two-tier system with higher fares and less say for our city.

It's urgent that we tell our Councillors to refuse to give away the TTC. Please take two minutes to call your Councillor and join the rally to stop the TTC grab at City Hall this Thursday at 12:30pm.

Call your Councillor!

Calling your City Councillor only takes two minutes, and makes a huge difference
  1. Find your new Councillor's phone number below. Don't know who your Councillor is? Scroll down to search using your address.
  2. Use the script below to leave a message. You can read more about the issue here
  3. Do you have an extra five minutes to save public transit? Make the same phone call to Mayor John Tory and Councillor Brad Bradford, the Downtown Relief Line Champion. If the province steals the subways, the Relief Line will likely end up on the back-burner.

Phone Script

Hi, my name is _______ and I live in Ward ____. I'm calling to urge you to oppose the province's plan to steal away TTC assets from our city.

The TTC belongs to Toronto. Breaking the TTC apart will create a two-tier system, with higher fares and less say for Toronto. This is a bad deal for our city.

I'm counting on you to stand up for our city and our public services by opposing the province's plan on December 13.

I will be watching your vote on this issue very closely.

Calling Councillor Brad Bradford? Add this line:

"As the Downtown Relief Line Champion, I'm counting on you to take a strong stand against this plan, because it threatens the future of the Relief Line."

Other points you could include:

  • What will happen to free TTC for kids under 12, the low income Fair Pass, and two-hour transfers if the TTC is fragmented?
  • Our city's vital transit priorities like the Relief Line and Eglinton East LRT could end up on the back burner if the province gets to decide what gets built, and when.
  • Don't allow the provincial government to steal away the TTC — it's a highly valuable asset that Toronto residents paid for through our property taxes and transit fares.
  • The best way for the province to improve transit is to fund it properly. The TTC is the least-subsidized major transit system in the US and Canada.
