Launched: Better Transit Now

This level of crowding, in addition to long wait times and rising fares, discourages people from taking the TTC across the system, leading to a ridership crisis. This deterioration of service is the result of chronic underfunding of the TTC. And while everyday riders may not want more people on their bus, population growth and the threat of climate change demand that the TTC serves more people. Better service is needed to improve conditions for current riders, and attract new riders to the system. ADD YOUR NAME FOR BETTER TRANSIT Our alternative ridership growth strategy, Better Transit Now, proposes four paths to improve our public transit system, increase ridership and curb climate change. We also point to equitable ways to raise the revenue needed to pay for it.

Like an "alternative budget," our strategy proposes a bolder version of the TTC's most recent Ridership Growth Strategy.

This report was a collaborative effort of over a dozen TTCriders members and allies. It is grounded in the experience of everyday transit riders and  sets out a bold vision for public transit that is accessible and affordable, and serves our communities well.

For each major strategy we estimated the ridership growth and corresponding reduction in GHG emissions to demonstrate the potential of investing in better transit. If all calculated strategies in this booklet were implemented, Toronto would achieve a savings of 57,781 tons of CO2 emissions per year, the equivalent of 13,532 homes' energy use or the amount absorbed by 2.4 million trees per year.

📸 Rally to Open the Crosstown

On February 19, 2025, TTCriders held the Rally to Open the Crosstown at Yonge and Eglinton to call for answers about the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRT projects. Promised opening dates for the LRTs have come and gone, while transit costs have skyrocketed under Metrolinx. Transit riders are looking for answers and credible opening dates for the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRTs.
TTCriders asked every party to invest in running TTC service and new LRTs with a 50% operating subsidy for local transit systems, and to give the TTC back control over running Toronto transit, to keep costs down and increase accountability.
